DuPont Engineering Polymers Packaging & Industrial Polymers launched its Delrin line of acetal resins at the Luxe Pack exhibition in New York. The resins apply technologies DuPont de-veloped for more established resin markets, such as automotives and flooring, and are expected to enable manufacturers of fragrances and cosmetics to lower their costs while packaging their products more aesthetically.Although DuPont does not yet have projections for the size of the market for Delrin or its rate of growth, the company has already signed licensing agreements with original equipment manufacturers.
While introducing the product line, Stefan Greulich, global market development manager, noted that Delrin offers high resistance to alcohols and most other ingredients in perfumes and cosmetics.
DuPont is introducing three resins for painting-Delrin DS100, DS500 and DS900-as well as two resins for plating, Delrin DS500M and DS900M, which will become available in July. Except for Delrin Etch solution, no special chemicals are required for plating Delrin. Parts can be decorated using the same equipment and baths for plating ABS plastics.
